THE Rite of the Phoenix  celebrates the re-birth of modern China in Shanghai Tang’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection. With the metaphor of the mythical bird, The Rite of the Phoenix tells the tale of a rich, inventive culture that has evolved from the austerity of the past to become a global leader. China’s cultural kaleidoscope, carried within the imagination of its population, rises from the ashes to re-emerge this season.
ASHES OF HEAVEN
Ashes of Heaven’s  colour palette is a sophisticated series of dark, rusty, earthy and organic hues, from liquorice black and charcoal grey, to pale green and silver pink. Innovative new prints offer modern interpretations of classics. The Lotus  is creatively presented as a digital print on qipaos, tunic tops, and embroidered on the inner lapels of silk trench coats.

Key pieces also feature Hexagon Lace, the new, highly textured and geometric fabric, including the must-have belted coat in layered silk and cotton.

SPRING RAIN
Spring Rain arrives in a fresh, muted palette of cream, pink, viola, green and blue, inspired by the concept of spring showers washing away the metaphoric ashes.

Key pieces enhance the feminine, dream-like mood with new romantic styling. Pleats and novel tying methods, created by expert cutters in Paris, breathe new life into Shanghai Tang’s signature qipaos and blouses, some with additional lace paneling.

PHOENIX IN FLIGHT
Phoenix in Flight takes inspiration from birds, feathers and dragonflies coloured by airy whites, yellows and pastels, from vanilla cream to dusky citron, orchid pink, leaf green and sky blue.

Key pieces for Phoenix in Flight are all about the prints, from jackets to top, tunics to cardigans, and gorgeous new Qipaos featuring unique sheer paneling details.
